Yau Nam Ng

Yau Nam Ng was born in Shanghai in 2007. His love and passion for the piano have been evident since he began learning at the age of four. Yau Nam was admitted to the Primary Music School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music at age nine. Two years later, having achieved the highest piano examination score, he was admitted to the Music Middle School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

To date, Yau Nam has garnered an impressive collection of piano competition prizes. In July 2024, he won the first prize in China’s most prestigious youth national piano competition, “The Golden Bell Award for Young Pianists”. He was also the Silver Medalist in the Junior Piano category at China’s 4th Zhuhai Mozart International Youth Piano Competition (WFIMC) in 2022, and the Gold Medalist of Young Professional’s group at Xiamen International Piano Competition in 2022 (AAF).

Yau Nam has performed as a concerto soloist with some of China’s leading orchestras, including: Symphony Orchestra of China National Opera House, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Opera House Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra, Harbin Symphony Orchestra, Chengdu City Orchestra and Guangxi Symphony Orchestra.

Yau Nam has participated in masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Ning An, Dang Thai Son, Krzysztof Jablonski, Alexander Kobrin, Lang Lang, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń, William Grant Naboré and Darío Ntaca.

Yau Nam formed a piano duo with Yutian Yang, Gold Medalist of the XI International Tchaikovsky Youth Music Competition. They have performed together extensively.

Yau Nam also enjoys promoting classical music to the public. He has performed several charity concerts and is passionate about teaching, especially working with young children to give them access to classical music.

Yau Nam is a member of both “Lang Lang Young Scholars’ Program 2024-26” and "Yangtze River Piano” National Young Pianists’ Training Program.

Since the age of seven, Yau Nam has been a student with William Chen, Professor and Head of the Piano Department at the Music Middle School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music, he is also learning with Dr. Angela Cholakian, Chair of the Piano Performance Department at Soochow University School of Music.
