Chuyu Wang

Chuyu Wang, age 16, is a Steinway Young Artist. She is a piano major student at the Middle School Attached to Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou, China, under the guidance of Korean-American pianist and Steinway artist Professor Helen Sim, who is also a master tutor in the piano department of Xinghai Conservatory. In recent years, pianist and composer Ningwu Du has also been her solo and chamber music mentor. She was a flute student of Professor Zhaogang Shen (deceased) at Xinghai Conservatory and served as the principal and assistant principal flutist of the Guangzhou Youth Symphony Orchestra from 2019 to 2022.

Chuyu has received guidance at home and abroad from renowned pianists/pedagogues such as Yoheved Kaplinsky, Arie Vardi, Robert McDonald, Sofya Gulyak, Bruce Brubaker, Albert Tiu, Shikun Liu, Zhaoyi Dan, Wanghua Chu, Mengjie Liu, Danwen Wei, Xiaohan Wang, Chun Wu, Mengsheng Shen, Longji Wen, Xiaofu Ju, and so on.

Chuyu started playing the piano at the age of 4 and has been invited to hold solo piano concerts at Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou since she was 10 years old. She has held over thirty solo piano and flute concerts in Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Zhanjiang, etc. and participated in over twenty performances of Guangzhou's Youth Symphony Orchestra, has performed in many chamber music concerts, and performed several times with Ningwu Du and Helen Sim. In July 2018, 11-year-old Chuyu performed at Carnegie Hall in the United States.

Right after she turned 13, Chuyu gave her "Complete Chopin Piano Etudes" concert, and since then has given "Chopin No. 1 and Rachmaninoff No. 2 Concertos Concert", "Scriabin+Debussy Anniversaries Concert", "Chinese Piano Works Concert" and so on. Chuyu has collaborated with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and the Guangzhou Youth Symphony Orchestra on piano and flute many times, and has toured nationally with them in Hangzhou, Suzhou, Tianjin, Fuzhou, etc.

Chuyu has won many prizes in various competitions like the Steinway National Youth Piano Competition, “Pearl River·Kaiserburg” International Youth Piano Competition, International Arts Festival Music Competition, Italian “Piano Prodigy” International Youth Competition, "Chamber Music Trio" Orchestral Competition at the International Chinese Arts Festival, Italian International “Keyboard Champion” Competition, etc.

In April 2023, she was invited to attend PianoSummer 2023 at New Paltz Arts Festival with a full scholarship; she participated in the first Tianjin Juilliard School Piano Arts Festival as a Young Artist in July 2023. On December 4, 2023, she gave a solo recital in Guangzhou and also on January 12, 2024 in Shenzhen.

She has been awarded First Prize in the Xinghai Music School Scholarship, Model Student, Outstanding Student Leader, Professional Excellence Award for 2021-2022. In 2022-2023 she was awarded the Xinghai Music School Outstanding Student Cadre Award, the Xinghai Music School Comprehensive Scholarship Second Prize, Excellent Student Leader, Professional Excellence Award, and Volunteer Star Award.

Chuyu was selected as the 11th Guangdong Provincial Image Ambassador in 2014 and the 14th Guangdong Provincial Public Welfare Ambassador in 2017, and she hopes to make her biggest effort to perform in hospitals, nursing homes, and orphanages, striving to become a promoter of classical music. She wants to share her love and passion for music with as many people as possible, to achieve the greatest accomplishment as a pianist.
